Muti incarnates the ‘fascist man’: a very young “Ardito” (an assault infantryman) in WWI, he takes part in the ‘Fiume enterprise’ (1919) and in the March on Rome (1922). He distinguishes himself in the Italo-Ethiopian war as pilot captain of the 15th Bombing Squadrilla (‘The Desperate’) and in the Spanish war at the controls of a SIAI S.81. After an unsuccessful experience as secretary of the Fascist party, he commands the 41st Bombing Group (SIAI S.79). After the collapse of the regime, he dies while being arrested on 24 August 1943. The fascists of the Italian Social Republic dedicate to him one of the most ferocious and blood-thirsty anti-partisan units, the ‘Ettore Muti’ mobile autonomous legion. Gold Medal of Military Valor.
