Emilio Zanlucchi

The Italo-Ethiopian War (1935-1936)

Son of the irredentist volunteer Attilio and brother to Ernesto Zanlucchi, he fights in Spain for one year with the 205th Bombing Squadrilla (the ‘Green Rats’). With the cease of the Spanish operations, he is transferred to eastern Africa where he takes part in several ‘colonial police operations’ against the Ethiopian guerrilla. He dies on 19 August 1939 aboard the hospital ship California that is taking him back to Italy due to the injuries sustained in a serious air accident.
