After fighting in the Spanish civil war with the Legionnaire air force, Italy’s joining in WWII finds him serving in eastern Africa with the 412th Fighter Squadrilla (Fiat CR.42). During the war operations conducted from June 1940 to February 1941, he distinguishes himself as a flying ace by destroying a large number of British aircraft in the air (16 planes) and on the ground (32) and by taking part in attacks against enemy air bases. A survivor of the dogfights that take place in the Battle of Cheren, due to bad weather he crashes his plane into Mount Bizén, near Nefasit, in Eritrea. One Gold Medal, one Silver Medal and one Bronze Medal of Military Valor.
