World War I: Fighters

An irredentist volunteer, he enlists in the Royal Army on 4 November 1915. He then transfers to the Italian Aviation Corps to pilot fighters (Nieuport, Hanriot HD.1, Spad) and to take part in actions above Trieste. He reaches the end of the conflict with the rank of lieutenant. In 1935 he attends the Malpensa bombing school and, as a reserve pilot with the rank of captain, he fights in the Italo-Ethiopian war (1935-1936). Silver Medal of Military Valor.
