Marco Larcher

1908-1995

The Spanish Civil War (1936-1939)

The son of Guido Larcher, former irredentist volunteer, fascist squad member, hierarch and senator of the Kingdom of Italy, he enlists in the Air Force in the 1920’s. In 1937 he is in Spain with the 23rd Fighter group ‘Ace of Clubs’ (Fiat CR.32). In 1939 he is adjutant to the Duke of Aosta in eastern Africa. In 1940 he fights on the Greek-Albanian front where, with the rank of Major, he leads the 239th Bombing Squadrilla in a nosedive (Junker Ju.87, Stukas). In 1941-1942, he operates in northern Africa (1st Wing, 6th Fighter Group) on board Macchi C.202 aircraft. One Silver Medal of Military Valor, one Iron Cross 2nd Class, a promotion to Major for war merits.
