World War I: Observation-Reconnaissance

An engineering student and irredentist volunteer with the nom de guerre ‘Angelo Neri’, he enlists in the Royal Army on 29 May 1915. Assigned to the 6th Fortress Artillery Regiment, he is then transferred to the Aviation Corps (July 1917). Assigned to the 46th Fighter Squadrilla, he is then transferred to the 37th Aerial Observation Squadrilla in the skies above Trentino (1917-1918). He reaches the end of the conflict with the rank of lieutenant. From 1924 to 1939, he runs the Italian Historical War Museum of Rovereto. Recalled to fight in the Italo-Ethiopian war, he also takes part in World War II. Interned after 8 September, he returns to the homeland in the summer of 1945. One Silver Medal of Military Valor and two War Merit Crosses.
