Caproni Test Pilots

Formerly a military flight instructor in WWI, he is known for having looped a Caproni Ca.33 heavy bomber trimotor. In the post-war period, he is the first and only test pilot of the Caproni Ca.60, a passenger airplane designed by Gianni Caproni and Alessandro Guidoni and destined to cross the Atlantic. The enormous nine-wing seaplane, dubbed ‘Transaereo’, is 25 metres long with a 30 m wingspan and a maximum takeoff weight of 26 tonnes. On 4 March 1921 Semprini conducts a test that ends up in an accident. What remains of the crashed airplane disappears in a fire a few months later.
