Caproni Test Pilots

A driver and good mechanic, after adequate training he becomes the first Caproni test pilot. In the morning of 27 May 1910, at Malpensa, he takes off for what will be the first flight of an aircraft designed and built by Gianni Caproni. The few spectators watching him from the ground are even more excited than he is. The small Caproni Ca.1 biplane, driven by a 25 Hp engine, flies for a short stretch above the moorland and then lands ruinously, leaving the pilot unscathed however. On 12 August 1910 he is at the controls of the Ca.2, taking off near Gallarate. He interrupts his career as a pilot when he is called to serve in WWI.
