The Libya wars (1911-1931)

An officer of the Royal Army, in 1911 he obtains a civilian and military pilot’s licence. During the Italo-Turkish war, at the controls of a French Nieuport he performs the first aerial reconnaissance missions. In September 1912, forced to land for technical problems, he is captured by the Turks and remains imprisoned until the war ends. During WWI he is the commander of the flight school. In 1917-1918 he heads the Aviation Services Office of the Italian High Command. After serving as commander of the Italian Royal Air Force (1923), he returns to the army and achieves the ranks of  army corps commander and commander-general of the Carabinieri. Senator of the Kingdom of Italy (1939-1947).
