In 1941 he is in northern Africa where he leads the 72nd Fighter Squadrilla. In 1942 the unit moves to Sardinia with the new Macchi C.202 aircraft. After the armistice of 8 September 1943, he becomes a member of the Italian Social Republic (RSI) and fights in the 3rd Squadrilla \u2018Archer\u2019 of the National Republican Air Force (ANR). He is discharged with the rank of colonel in the 1960\u2019s.
